A trio of musical forces
Local Derry-based choir Codetta join the Ulster Orchestra for their gala concert of the season, Falletta Conducts Verdi in the Millennium Forum on 18 May.
Under the baton of Principal Conductor JoAnn Falletta, Codetta will join the Ulster Orchestra and the Belfast Philharmonic Choir to perform the magnificent Verdiís Requiem.
A local choir, Codettaís members are all originally from Derry but now live, work and study in towns and cities throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe. Codetta has given many concerts both locally and nationally, most notably reaching the final of the Grand Prix in Maribor in 2008 and winning awards at the Sligo and Cork International Choral Festivals in 2008/2009. Codetta recently featured in an episode of the award-winning TV series Seacht. The singers have also collaborated on a CD with renowned Derry saxophonist Gerard McChrystal and performed with cellist Kim Vaughan.
Falletta Conducts Verdi is one of a series of concerts that Codetta has performed in Derry since helping to open the City of Culture 2013 in January at the Sons & Daughters concert, performing alongside celebrated guests Snow Patrol and Neil Hannon.
Verdiís Requiem was his only large-scale work that was not for the stage and is a piece of great spiritual and emotional significance, operatic one moment, restrained the next. Codetta are delighted to play a part in what promises to be the biggest triumph of the Ulster Orchestra 2012/2013 season to date.
