The international prize-winning choir Codetta has announced the formation of two new choirs in the city and district area. These will be the Codetta Junior and Codetta Youth choirs, both of which will provide opportunities for young singers to avail of an exciting programme of choral training and performance, including participation in the upcoming fifth edition of the City of Derry International Choir Festival at the end of October.
Rehearsals will be held in the Model PS, beginning on Tuesday 5 September with an open rehearsal and registration session for each choir. The Codetta Junior Choir will be for singers aged 9-13, with a rehearsal time of 4.30-5.45. The Codetta Youth Choir will be aimed at pupils in Key Stage 4 and above aged 14-19, and will rehearse at 6.00-7.45. Places for both choirs will be limited and in the case of over-subscription, will be allocated following a short audition process.
This is a wonderful opportunity for all young people interested in singing to join a choral programme that has already established a significant reputation both nationally and internationally. In recent years, Codetta has performed frequently on BBC and UTV, participated in major festivals in Derry, Belfast, London and Washington, and most recently were winners of the Fleischmann Trophy at the Cork International Choral Festival. This new project will expand the Codetta family of choristers and lay the foundations for choral excellence in the city for years to come.
